Losing Our Minds
By Peggy Sealfon
Losing our minds can be a good thing. When we are able to merge mind with body, we become more integrated and our vital life force energy flows more freely opening all the channels and meridians. Homeostatis–the balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems–is restored. We feel more centered, more connected with our true sense of ourselves. We feel empowered. It’s when we get stuck in our minds that the ego dominates and often misleads us into reactive behavior that doesn’t serve us and makes life more of a struggle.
So how does this integration happen? Often we experience it unconsciously when we get so absorbed in a project or a performance that we disappear into the experience of the moment. We’re so deeply engaged and so completely present in the experience that we seem to magically melt into time and space. When we reach that state of integration unconsciously, there’s a sense that time just flew by. Haven’t you experienced the shock of discovering that hours had slipped past when it felt like you were focused on a project for only a few minutes? It happens to me most evenings when I’m writing blogs and I completely lose track of time.
Of course, entering the state of integration CONSCIOUSLY is a more challenging proposition. However through the ancient yogic techniques offered by the Amrit Method, originated by Yogi Master Gurudev Amrit Desai, the integrative state can be achieved again and again. And when it is done consciously, we are able to be freed to see solutions where before we saw only problems. Life becomes more fluid as we are more in alignment with the natural laws of nature. One method of experiencing these techniques is through Yoga Nidra or Integrative Relaxation. Just 20 minutes of doing Yoga Nidra has been shown to be equivalent to 3-4 hours of deep REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. While I don’t recommend using this technique in place of sleep, it can be helpful if you’ve had a rough night and need to be sharp. I’ve created several CDs that can help you achieve the experience for yourself every day. You can read more by visiting Relaxation CDs
